St. Catherine was founded in the year 2000 by Pastor James Onyango and his wife Cyprine. Because of the many orphans in the community, they decided to give those children an opportunity by offering a preschool. More and more children from the neighborhood joined, so that step by step a fully Kenyan Preschool and Primary School for grades 1-8 as were created. The Orphanage was constructed in 2006, when three siblings lost both of their parents to Aids within a six month period. There were no relatives who could take care of them, so a room in the school was prepared for them. Further orphans were adopted during the subsequent years, who lost their families to poverty, AIDS, or violence.
